Jon Milne joined Invest Ottawa in 2013 as a Director of Marketing, when he brought over 10 years of experience in marketing, sales, business development and product management. Having helped transform the marketing team and its impact with the community, Jon was promoted to VP of Marketing and Communications. Building on his experience and insights with Invest Ottawa, Jon is now taking over the Innovation portfolio which includes entrepreneurship and startups services where he will bring new creativity, enthusiasm and a deeper understanding of Invest Ottawa’s ecosystem and community stakeholders.

Previously, Jon held various roles at Irdeto including Director of Sales, Director of Global Field Marketing and Product Marketing Manager. Prior to Irdeto, Jon co-founded Software Theories Inc. and held positions with IBM Canada, Corporate Renaissance Group and Public Works and Government Services Canada.

Jon has Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University and an MBA from Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business. He returns to Ottawa after having spent two years in the Netherlands with his wife and three children.

Jon Milne’s passions for startups, technology trends and innovation is also reflected in his community involvement as an executive member at Fresh Founders, member of the boards of directors of YMCA – YWCA of the National Capital Region and Artengine.

Blair Patacairk, Managing Director, Investment and Trade

Blair Patacairk moved into the position of Managing Director of Investment and Trade in November of 2014. Prior to taking on this role, Blair was engaged as a special advisor to Invest Ottawa in the areas of foreign direct investment and government relations. As such Blair was responsible or the attraction of investment, companies and people to the Ottawa region, the management of Ottawa’s local and global partnerships and the international spokesperson on marketing Ottawa to the world. He also implemented the first ever business, retention and expansion program for Invest Ottawa.

Blair has over twenty years of experience in the public and private sectors, including working directly for the former Mayor of the City of Ottawa, Bob Chiarelli. He brings a wealth of knowledge on strategic partnerships and growing both SMEs and Fortune 500 companies. His previous experience includes roles at: Vayyoo Inc., a mobile solutions tech startup where he was Vice-President; Dell Inc. where he was the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Business Development; and OCRI as the Director of Investment, Marketing, Media and Government Relations at OCRI, where he used his extensive network of business and media contacts to promote Ottawa-based technologies companies around the world.

A recipient of Ottawa’s Top 40 Under 40 award in 2008, Blair has volunteered his time as a board member with numerous organizations and currently sits as the Chairman of the Rideau Canal Festival. He also shares his experience as a business and marketing/communications mentor in local universities/colleges and high schools.

Karen Letain, Director, Marketing & Communications

Karen has a wealth of experience having overseen the marketing operations at an executive level for organizations such as CarbonSolve, CMI, Thomson (Reuters), IP3 and Corel Corporation.

In 2008 she was a founding partner of OutsideIN Inc, a marketing agency that serviced private and public sector clients throughout North America. A passionate believer in the startup community, she has both funded and acted as a mentor for a variety of startups throughout the last 15 years.

She has been an active member with Ottawa’s knowledge-based companies having both funded and mentored a variety of start ups over the past 15 years and has had key roles in M&A’s, raising capital and successful exits.

Karen is a member of a number of many local boards and advisory committees including CHEO, ISACA Ottawa Valley, The Ottawa Network and previously
Invest Ottawa’s Investment & Trade and Aerospace, Defense and Cyber Security committees.

She began her career as an educator, having taught at the high school and college level. Karen holds a Masters in Business Administration from William Howard Taft University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ryerson University. A lifelong learner, Karen most recently certified as an Information Systems Auditor and as a Lean Six Sigma practitioner.
