With less than three weeks’ notice, last week we launched the first-ever Ottawa Entrepreneur Week. It was incredible! To the thousands of people who participated, or heard, about the 36 events across our region, we proved that Ottawa has great entrepreneurial energy in our companies, in our labs, and on our campuses.
What I also discovered is how much of Ottawa’s entrepreneurial spirit comes from Ottawans who weren’t born here. If you have the courage to start a whole new life in a new city or country – I guess you certainly have what it takes to start a business. Fantastic!

Ottawa’s entrepreneurs are conquering the world! And the first-ever Ottawa Entrepreneur Week is celebrating the innovators and risk-takers who create wealth and jobs for our region.
From Nov. 14th to Nov. 20th a wide range of special events, conferences, how-to seminars and hands-on workshops are all aimed at turning up the heat on entrepreneurship in Ottawa.
Held in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week and Canada’s Year of the Entrepreneur, Ottawa Entrepreneur Week is a community-wide event that involves our businesses, our schools, our media companies and several organizations purpose-built to foster entrepreneurship across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.

Throughout Ottawa Entrepreneur Week you can check this space for news about the Portfolio Rising Stars mentored by the Regional Innovation Centre for Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. These are “the ones to watch” companies considered by the Regional Innovation Centre to offer excellent growth prospects, unique business models and in many cases phenomenal export potential.
