Invest Ottawa (IO) is pleased to share the Winter 2022 eNPS results. The eNPS service is a semi-annual benchmarking exercise that offers a health check on company culture for high-growth tech companies in the ScaleUp program. Certain larger Invest Ottawa (IO) Accelerator companies that meet the 20+ employee threshold were also invited to participate in the last four rounds.
The “new normal” is a buzz-term that organizations are trying to dissect, understand, and ultimately navigate. Building a culture and workplace atmosphere that allows employees to learn, grow and succeed is the ultimate way to ensure a company is proactive about building a positive and sustainable culture.
While quite the riddle to solve, three Invest Ottawa client companies in the IO Accelerator and ScaleUp programs, are paving the way to solve this riddle as they deliberately and purposefully ensure a positive culture within their teams, in person and online.
The eNPS is an adaptation of the Net Promoter Score (NPS), a widely adopted customer experience metric used to gauge satisfaction with your company’s service or product by measuring customer loyalty. The eNPS has a focus on the employee and garners quantitative feedback by measuring employee loyalty, satisfaction, and enthusiasm. Additionally, the eNPS benchmarking exercise allows companies to see how they stack up against other local Ottawa tech companies in the community.
Membership management software company, Wicket, global file transfer service firm, MASV, and construction site smart testing technologies and AI solutions company Giatec are the top scorers for Winter 2022. Not only did these three fast growing tech companies score exceptionally, but they are also deemed some of the most exciting places to work in Ottawa.
How is eNPS calculated?
An eNPS ranges from -100 to 100. All participating employees complete a survey question that asks them to select a number from 0 – 10. Each entry is categorized based on the number the respondent chose.
- Detractors select between 0 – 6
- Passives select 7 or 8
- Promoters select 9 or 10
A total score is calculated by subtracting the percentage of “detractors” from the percentage of “promoters.” According to HR Technologist, a good eNPS score can range from 10 – 30. A score of 50 is excellent.
Not only are our top three scoring companies soaring above the 50 excellent mark, but the average score this round was 57. A strong eNPS score also indicates that employees are more likely to recommend their workplace to friends and business colleagues, serving to attract other good people to the company and leading to greater growth, profit and success.
“Participating in IO’s eNPS, in my opinion, creates huge advantages for the companies inside our ecosystem. Not only do they get deep insight into the thoughts and opinions of their own employees, they have an opportunity to understand where they rank compared to many of their peer companies,” explains Lynn Stevens, invest Ottawa’s ScaleUp Human Resources & Culture Advisor.
Lynn has been a crucial part of Invest Ottawa’s eNPS service since its beginning. Each round, Lynn continues to see top performing companies take the initiative to learn from the results and implement new ways to improve the culture for their employees. The service allows companies to understand the direction and set a path that keeps them moving toward excellence.
“I strongly believe getting a pulse on what is happening inside your company is critical. What is going well, what do employees love about working for you. This gives you reassurance that you are doing the right things and that those things are appreciated by the people who work there. I see huge value in this program and am honoured to continue to be a part of it.”
